Of course Denver had to know what was going on...
On a sadder note, we decided to put Vinson down. It is a behavioral issue that will only get worse. The vet told us that in the cases she had where the dogs did go home they always got worse. The rescues won't take him because he is biting (each bite had gotten worse from the nips at Denver to the actual red arm/mark left on Katelynn) and neither will the shelters...he is deemed unadoptable. And rather then risk giving him to a home where they would 1) not understand him and all of his separation issues or 2) he would bite them and then they would come after us for damages - we made the decision to do what we thought was best for our dog and the only home/family he has ever known. We could not bring him back to the house and risk the next time being worse (3 times in one week with each one getting worse is too much for us to sit around and wait and see). The next time could have been worse and a trip to the er explaining that we knew and did nothing.
I still can't believe it. I've been looking around for him all night and in the mornings. It's going to take some time to adjust and realize what is going on. It was a decision that we made together and that we are facing together. Nothing is worse then Katelynn's questioning of where Vinson is - usually not once, but several times a day.
We've spent as much time as possible out of the house the past few days. It's so hard to be home and not think of him. It's hard when we are out too because in the back of your mind you're thinking we need to get home so the pet sitter can go home. It's tough, but in the end we know that it was best this way. He gave us 5 good years and we will miss him dearly.
