Chris's Dad, Chris's older sister Kelly and her two kids (Brendan and Lexi), along with Chris, Me, and Katelynn went on a camping trip to Mt. Rushmore over Labor Day Weekend. It was an amazing trip! I've got a million pictures to share so I might have to do this in a couple different blogs.
The drive to Mt. Rushmore was really nice. If I remember right it took us about 10 hours. Katelynn did very well, and so did the dogs (we had to take all 3 with us). We were there for 3 days and I somehow managed to not get any photos of Keira...oops.
We decided to take the scenic route when we got to South Dakota and we went through Custer State Park. We were told it's a great place to see Buffalo, but all we saw were deer...
As soon as we left the Park we were at our campground. It wasn't too bad. I don't have any really good pictures of it though, so the following will have to do.
Day one was just spent driving to the campsite, and then doing some relaxing once we got the tent set up.
Katelynn did not do so well with the whole tent situation. It was very windy which shook the tent for most of the night, plus it was a full moon both nights so you could see the shadows of the trees. She pretty much cried every night for the whole night, so we didn't get much rest (and I'm sure the campers near us didn't either).
Also on Day one we went to Flintstones Campground - it had a railroad, a town you could walk through, a playground, and a souvenir shop. I will blog with photos on that one since there were lots of things to do.
Day two we went to Mt. Rushmore. I figured we'd be there maybe an hour or two, we were there for about 5 hours. There were hiking trails, a museum, videos to watch, shops to go in - just so much to see and do there! Hope you enjoy the pictures.

We didn't see any signs that said you couldn't eat in the amphitheater area, but we got some strange looks for feeding Katelynn there. Hmmm...

On our last day there we went to Jewel Cave, another national monument. I'll blog on that one separately as well.
