Chris is on stand-down before his deployment so we've been doing some day trips. On Tuesday we headed to the Baltimore Zoo for the day. The Zoo wasn't bad, it was very old and not a lot of animals (especially for the price to get in). Once you pay you can either walk or ride the tran, so we decided to try the tran.
When you get off the tran there are 3 sections you can go to. We went and saw the Polar Bears first. Katelynn liked the snowey owl and the two ravens (Rise and Conquer) they had along the way.
There were 3 Polar Bears (but only 2 were out). I didn't take any photos of them. We headed over to the "African" part next. They didn't have a lot of animals - some turtles, rhino, 2 giraffes, some monkeys, a lion. We saw a sign that said they had zebra's, but we never did find them.
For $2 you could feed the giraffes, so of course we did this and Katelynn loved it! She was so excited she threw the food at the giraffe (thankfully it didn't go far so I was able to pick it up so we could feed him).
We followed the path around to the monkey's, but Katelynn was much more excited about the frogs (she has 3 rubber frogs that she plays with in her waterpark at home).
After the African section we headed to the Maryland section where it's supposed to be all local plants and animals. This was the most disappointing section, so I'm glad we saved it for last. The Marshlands were cool because Katelynn likes ducks, but the river otters "display" was so dirty you couldn't see anything (maybe we were spoiled with the otter display in CO?). The bat cave had cool bats, but Katelynn wasn't a fan of the actual cave. There was also a "tree" that you could go in. It was full of snakes but only about 3/4 of the displays were actually labeled. The tree also housed a giant slide that Katelynn liked. The best part of this section was the petting zoo in the farm area. Katelynn loved, loved, loved the goats!!!
Katelynn liked the giant turtle displays they had as well.
We leave for Stew's wedding in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday - that should be my next blog!
