As many of you know we recently lost ToddDog. We still have Vinson, and he is taking the loss of his little play buddy very hard. His separation anxiety (common Husky issue) which in the past has been bad, but not terrible, has become extremely destructive. In the past 3 years, we've replaced outside doors (now they have a doggie door so he doesn't try to eat his way through) and a patch of carpet (tried to dig his way out of the house). Grand total: $1100.
With losing ToddDog and now with all the moving and packing he gets a crazy look to him when we try and go anywhere. We've had him for almost 4 years now and have done numerous road trips where he has spent several hours in a vehicle (Mt. Rushmore trip he slept in the vehicle and stayed in there for about 3-4 hours while we walked around), and we've NEVER had a problem leaving him in there.
This all changed last Friday. We went down to the Springs for the baby shower pics I posted earlier this week, and as usual we left him in the car (since leaving him at home isn't an option because of the damage to the carpet he did). This is what he did to my passenger seat...
It literally looked like it snowed in my vehicle...
I started doing research online: cost to replace a car seat from Toyota $3,000!!!!! Out of curiosity I called my insurance company - State Farm. Turns out we are covered!!!!!! It's under the comprehensive part and we only have to pay $100 deductible - oh thank goodness!! We go to an auto repair shop that State Farm recommended and it will take a minimum of 3 weeks to get everything. Looks like we will be waiting until we get to MD to get the seat fixed. So, in the mean time we have it safety pinned together and then a car seat cover covering it. It helps keep you from having that "I've been in a terrible car accident" reaction every time you look at it. It's not terribly uncomfortable to ride in, but I'm thankful that we both have to drive our vehicles and I won't have to ride for 3 days in that seat.
We started taking Vinson back to the dog park so that he can run and play with other dogs and just wear himself out. On Tuesday we noticed something on his side. We actually thought Katelynn had dropped food on him, but on closer investigation it turned out it was a scab. We figured we'd take him to the vet on Thursday (after the moving/packing was all done) so we could get it shaved and cleaned up and get all his shots updated before hitting the road. Figured maybe $100, $120 dollars. Well when they shaved it this is what they found...
Some dog got a hold of our little guy pretty good. You can see a big wound and then a tiny puncture so he was definitely bit. Neither one of us saw it happen either. So today we are taking him in for stitches. The money we saved on the car seat will now be going to stitches. Granted it's not $3000, but $700 is still a big chunk of the traveling money.
And as you may have guessed, he is not handling the cone around his head very well - we found it in pieces this morning!
This should be a fun road trip. Hope to see everyone soon, and keep your fingers crossed for no more drama before leaving CO!!
