More of Vinson's Grand Adventures

As many of you know when we left CO Vinson had a cone on his head and stitches after a dog attacked him at the dog park. We made it safely to my parent's house in southern VA and removed his cone so he could meet and greet Mom and Dad's dogs. We contacted the local vet and made an appointment to have his stitches out on Friday morning. All went well, and he made a great recovery! He had a grand ole time running around my parent's farm with their dogs...a nice treat after all the traveling and confusion of the past few weeks.
On Friday he got his stitches out, on Saturday he took off running and we couldn't find him for about 30 minutes. When he came back he was muddy and covered in blood. We believe he got tangled up in barbwire...
He had a laceration on his face and a huge wound on his front leg. We cleaned them up and didn't think they looked that bad, so bright and early Sunday morning we piled in the car and headed to our new home in Ft. Meade, MD. We noticed on the trip that the wound on his leg seemed to be getting bigger. Once we got to the house we looked around for an emergency vet and it turns out it was a lot deeper then we originally thought. This time they decided that since he wasn't hostile that he wouldn't need anesthesia and they were able to just staple his leg shut (saved us almost $500 this way). So after only one day without it - back into a cone he went! Poor guy.
All this happened over Thanksgiving, so almost 3 weeks ago. He is now cone free and behaving more like the dog we know. Our only problem was when the movers brought our house hold good items. We didn't want him running out the open door so we bought a metal stake for the ground with a 10' lead and a Kong Harness. We figured that might work. (as a side note we did kennel train him as a pup, but after 2 years he suddenly started trying to eat his way out of it and after 2 very messy/bloody episodes we started leaving him out, so kennels are not good for him either). Within 15 minutes he had eaten his way through the harness!!!! So Chris put his choker collar back on him and about an hour later we looked outside and he had managed to push the metal fence up and was trying to dig his way out of the yard. The movers were like, "that is some dog you have out there." That's putting it nicely. I just let him inside and kept an eye on him, Katelynn, and the movers who were calling out box numbers while bringing stuff in. What a day that was (blog to come later)!!!
So anyway, I am at a loss as to what to do with Vinson. We are thinking about trying the kennel again, but I don't really want another vet bill. Leaving him in the house is not an option - I really can't afford to replace any more doors or carpet. I am not ready to drug him. Tying him up in the yard is not an option. Right now I put him in the car and he hangs out while we grocery shop and run errands. I have NO IDEA what I am going to do when Baby #2 arrives and Chris leaves on deployment.  This could prove to be a very interesting year indeed.
And by the way, giving him away is just not an option at this point and time. Tempting, but not an option.
Okay, well more blogs to come soon now that we are almost entirely unpacked I can play catch-up!
