RIP ToddDog

I've got some of the saddest news ever - we lost our little ToddDog on Monday morning. What a crazy weekend/day it was too. We all piled in the car on Sunday for a road trip to Western CO to explore some before moving. Our destination was 4-corners. We stopped and walked the dogs a few times, stopped so I could pee a million times, listened to some of the Broncos game (trying desperately not to let the stupid game ruin the weekend), and listened to Katelynn scream in the back seat (she really was not dealing with the trip very well...small preview for what our trip across country is going to be like). We made it to Durango that night.
I must say I was expecting a lot more from the small town. I was expecting trains, Victorian homes, just a unique downtown and what we found was a typical town full of chain stores. We got a room at Travel Lodge (they gave us a great Military discount too!).
Chris went to the store to get milk for Katelynn and some dinner (most places were closed since it was about 8pm on a Sunday night). Katelynn wanted to play in the toilet, so I closed the door and surprise! we couldn't open it (thank goodness she didn't close it while she was in there - that would've been a nightmare). We called the front desk and after several attempts they couldn't open it so we got another room. We moved and got settled in before Chris got back.
The dogs got to enjoy some of  Katelynn's Wendy's nuggets and chili mixed with their dog food. For some reason they just won't eat plain dog food on the road. When we went to bed the dogs were doing fine. They were settling in for the night like usual. Although something just wasn't quite right. None of us could sleep that night (of course that's nothing new for this pregnant women). Todd was panting a lot so we turned the heat off (it was stuffy in the room). In the early am he kept wanting to go out and on one of the trips Chris had to pick him up and bring him in because he just stopped (like when he first got sick). This made both of us very concerned. It was around 345 am when Vinson just started barking at us, so Chris got up and took the dogs out. This is when it went all wrong. The dogs didn't need to go out - we think Vinson was letting us know something was wrong with ToddDog. Chris came in very upset carrying ToddDog. He was panting, drooling, and just breathing hard. He died in Chris's arms about 10 minutes later.

We had to wait until 8am to take him to the vet because there were no 24-hour vet places in Durango. It was a long tough morning and by far the saddest and hardest thing I've ever had to witness. He will be dearly missed in this family.
RIP ToddDog. June 2000 - October 24, 2010.
