First 5K

So I ran my first EVER 5K on Sunday! It was the Home Run for the Homeless sponsored by the Colorado Rockies (baseball). The day started off very rocky to say the least!
We got to the stadium, parked way out in the huge parking lot, loaded up the stroller with Katelynn and water and then headed to the start line. Found out along the way that our tire was flat!!!!!

We asked several people, but no one had a tire pump. We found a medic on a bike and asked if she had one, and she did, but it wouldn't work! So we decided to run anyway. Chris said he'd push it because he didn't want to wait for us, he wanted to run too. Okay by me!

We were all smiles. Then 5 minutes before the race was set to kick off we noticed that Katelynn's pants were wet. So I RAN from the start line all the way through the parking lot to our car to get her a new diaper and a change of clothes...didn't have them on us since we had just changed her diaper. We think it was just juice, but better to be safe then sorry. We told Pacita to go ahead and run and we'd change Katelynn and then start.
So by the time we got her changed the walkers had already started.

So we took a quick picture with Dinger, the Rockies mascot...

Then spent awhile trying to get around all the walkers so we could run.

At the 1 mile walker they shouted the time of 17 minutes - I guess not bad for starting late, and being behind a lot of walkers. The 2 mile marker guy was my favorite - "when I say mile, you say 2, mile, 2, mile, 2!" How fun! It was a very, VERY hilly course, but we kept a decent pace. Got teased a few times - headed up a big hill next to the stadium only to turn right away from the stadium - booo! But we rounded a corner and headed back towards the stadium. The next corner we turned there was the finish line in front of us! We were so close you could smell the hot dogs cooking (which Chris loved, but made me feel queasy - YUCK!). But, wait, they turn you again so you can run a lap around the baseball field! Now that was a pretty cool detour! I've never seen the dugouts or a real professional baseball field up close like that!
Finally we rounded around the bend and there was the finish line! And Pacita was shouting our names - what a rush!

We all finished with huge smiles on our faces!

With flat tire and all!

Chris needed a break before heading into the stadium for refreshments - yummy bananas and bagels! And of course the hot dogs. :(

We took Katelynn over to the play area, but they had it closed off. There was a really cute statue though so we took her photo with it.

We headed downtown to find something to eat. Found this really odd looking statue called "National Velvet." Odd. Katelynn couldn't stop starring at it, none of us could really.

We went to a restaurant called Mona's. They serve breakfast and lunch. It was good, but a little pricey. We were all pretty tired and a little silly.
